Photo Book Binding Process & Project Scope 1. Initial Consultation & Project Definition We begin with a consultation with the family to define the vision, purpose, and scope of the book. This includes determining the number of artworks, book size, orientation, binding style, cover materials, and any personalization such as the child’s name, dates, or brief captions. Archival considerations and long-term preservation goals are discussed at this stage. 2. Artwork Collection & Review Original artworks from Frances and Elodie are collected or received as digital scans. Each piece is reviewed for completeness, orientation, and condition. Physical artworks are handled with care and returned promptly after scanning, if applicable. 3. High-Resolution Scanning & Photography When Necessary All artworks are scanned at high resolution to preserve texture, color, and detail. Scanning is performed using settings appropriate to the medium (crayon, watercolor, pencil, mixed media) to ensure accurate reproduction and minimal loss of nuance. 4. Image Cleanup & Color Correction Scanned files are gently refined to maintain the integrity of the original artwork. Adjustments may include straightening, color balancing, and tonal correction—without altering the child’s original marks or intent. 5. Artwork Sequencing & Flow This may be chronological, thematic, or age-based, allowing the book to tell a cohesive and meaningful story for the family. 6. Book Layout & Design Each artwork is placed within a carefully designed layout that allows space for the art to breathe. Margins, white space, and page relationships are considered to honor the work. Optional elements such as titles, dates, or short notes may be included subtly and consistently. Both books will be approximately 14’’x12’’ depending on the final layout 7. Proofing & Family Approval A digital proof—and when requested, a printed sample—is shared with the family for review. This stage allows for adjustments to sequencing, layout, or presentation details. Final approval is obtained before production begins. 8. Printing on Archival Materials Pages are printed on archival-quality paper selected for its durability and color fidelity. Printing is monitored to ensure accurate color reproduction and consistency across all artworks. Premium Luster paper for pages Premium matte canvas printing for covers 9. Trimming & Page Assembly Printed pages are trimmed to final dimensions and assembled in the approved order.
